Tekmetric Review: Unlimited Seats, but the Road Costs Extra

Tekmetric is well-made repair shop software whose $199 Start plan seats unlimited users, which looks cheap for a crew. A mobile mechanic's bill is $784 a month, because two-way texting begins on the $439 Scale plan and booking and review requests are a $345 add-on, and even then nothing on its site puts a day of stops in drive order.

Built for Bays

Ranked 3 of 7; Mobile Service Sync scores 100.0. Best for: A shop with bays and a big crew, where unlimited users on every plan pays off.

What Tekmetric Costs a Mobile Mechanic

The sticker is straightforward. Start is $199 a month, Grow $349 and Scale $439, every plan seats unlimited users, and each one is a little cheaper when paid a year at a time. Enterprise is priced on request.

The catch is where the mobile pieces live. Two-way texting, the channel a driveway customer actually replies on, first appears on Scale. Online booking, reminders and review requests are the Marketing add-on at $345 a month per shop. A one-van mechanic who wants what Mobile Service Sync's first plan carries therefore pays $784 a month, or $9,408 over a year.

Tekmetric bills month to month and offers free demos, with no free trial.

What It Leaves Out Once You Are in a Van

The vehicle side is strong. Tekmetric decodes a VIN or a plate on every plan, and Tekmetric Mobile puts inspections and the job board on iPhone and Android with any plan.

The day itself is not covered. Its pricing and feature pages name no routing, so stop order gets worked out in a separate map app. It documents no offline mode, and its help center suggests a backup connection for outages instead. Inventory is kept per shop, with transfers only between Multi-Shop locations, so the van's shelves are invisible to it.

Its booking caps jobs per day and per slot, and has no service area, so nothing stops a booking from an address you do not drive to.

If You Are Weighing a Switch

Mobile Service Sync covers the same plate and VIN decode on its $49 Core plan and adds what Tekmetric leaves to other tools: each technician's stops ordered by drive time in one click, an app that keeps working with no signal, stock counted per van, and booking held to your service area. Tekmetric bills month to month, so a move can land at the end of any billing month.

What to move, and in what order, is in the Switching Guide. Mobile Service Sync keeps its own side by side at Mobile Service Sync vs Tekmetric.

Questions About Tekmetric

How much does Tekmetric cost a mobile mechanic?
$784 a month, for the texting and booking a mobile customer expects. That is the $439 Scale plan, the first with two-way texting, plus the $345 Marketing add-on for online booking and review requests. The $199 Start plan carries neither.
Does Tekmetric charge per user?
No: every Tekmetric plan includes unlimited users, so five people on Start pay the same $199 as one. Start has no two-way texting or online booking, though, and adding both takes the bill to $784 at any crew size.
Can I try Tekmetric for free?
No, Tekmetric offers free demos rather than a free trial, so you watch it run before you pay. Mobile Service Sync offers 14 days with no card instead.
